I was reading last week about the new Tascam FireOne.  Looks interesting.  I wonder how well the jog wheel and other goodies would work with Audition.

Out of curiosity, I read through the manual and app notes - there's no indication that it will work at all as far as I can see - there doesn't on the face of it appear to be a Mackie emulation, which has to be the starting point for Audition controllers, I think.

Oh well, that's a shame.  Although maybe that's a good thing because that takes away one source of temptation.

I have to admit I don't know the first thing about how these external controllers "talk" to Audition.  I gather it's not just MIDI, because then it would be possible to use the keyboard / MIDI shortcuts.  Given that the AA developers are (presumably) too busy to widen support for more controllers (though with these becoming more common, surely that would be a useful feature), I wonder if there is anything in the AA SDK to allow third parties to add support.  Not that I have any spare time to code one up myself, even if I did get a controller.  If there isn't, perhaps there should be.  Perhaps I should be typing all this in the wish-list thread?

Oh, it could be just MIDI - in fact I'm pretty sure that it is. MIDI has a SysEx system which means that you can do just about anything with it - and that includes a load of stuff not normally transmitted by a keyboard. I'm not saying that it's definitely SysEx - there are a lot of other controller options too, and I must admit that I've never investigated what it is that Audition can receive and make use of in this direction, because my Red Rover has always worked, and that's all I've ever needed as an external controller...

Well, I got curious.  There is an Audition controller SDK.  But all it consists of is some header files and sample code, and very little explanation of how to actually do anything.

Haven't looked at it. But that might explain why it took Frontier so long to reconfigure their controller!
