I was forced to reformat my computer after my old XP installation went nuts.  So I did, and reinstalled XP and dug up my Adobe Audition 2.0 and reinstalled that.  But I've encountered a very odd bug when opening/saving files that I never saw before...

The file name bar is in the middle of the window???  As aesthetically unpleasing as it may be, I would have been able to deal with it had it functioned properly.  And it does function properly if I only try to open one file at a time.  If I open more than one at a time, however, it goes bonkers.  For example if I try to add multiple files for batch processing (Add Files..., highlight multiple and Add) it will literally try to open the *folder* those are located in.  And I don't mean the files within the folder, I mean the folder itself.  Which doesn't do much of anything.  So, if I want to do any batch processing, I have to add one file at a time, which is a very tedious process (and something I shouldn't have to resort to anyway.)

I can't figure out for the life of me what's going on.  I've uninstalled and re-installed it a number of times in a number of different ways, with no background processes, no firewall or antivirus software, I've done registry cleanups.  I don't know what to do!  Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

The first thing you should try to do is to update your video driver. And if that doesn't work, or it's already the latest one, then try to find a previous version - because this looks for all the world like a video problem, not an Audition one. Okay, AA2.0 isn't exactly the best thing since sliced bread, but I've never known it to do that, so it's unlikely to be the software. Apart from anything else, I think that AA2.0 file saving uses the Windows APIs and DLLs, so Audition isn't really implicated inherently, as far as I'm aware.

Hi Steve,

My thoughts pretty much echoed yours.  I did update my video drivers... in fact I've since upgrade my video card!  But it still does it, unfortunately.  None of my other programs do this though.  (The only other Adobe program I have is Reader but that doesn't do it, for whatever that's worth.)

I'm pretty stumped.

I still have AA2.0 available on this system, so I tried a 'Save Session As' (as per your graphic) just to see what happened. The first time I did it, it was slow to initialise, and the display definitely looked weird, but after a couple of seconds it settled down. Whenever I tried it after that, it behaved itself immediately.

The only video card manufacturer that has ever been implicated in any CEP/Audition video display problems that I'm aware of is Nvidia - but that was a while ago, and didn't specifically relate to save boxes, so I doubt if that's got anything to do with it.

I suppose that there might be problems if you try to run Audition in compatibility mode (if that's even possible) but I think that I'm grasping at straws, quite frankly. So unless somebody actually has some experience of anything like this, the only thing I can suggest is to contact Adobe directly and ask whether it's known to them at all. It might also be worth going through the Adobe Audition knowledgebase - there's quite a lot of obscure stuff in there as well.

Let me add to Steve's typically great advice that NVidia isn't normally a problem with Audition, though up-to-date drivers are important, and not all cards are equally good (to be sure!).  But just be aware that I am one of many that have used nothing but NVidia cards throughout all versions of Audition, so it can be done.  Sorry, sausagerace, haven't seen this problem.

WWW

I use only ATI cards - only ever had problems with nVidia - to be fair I'm pretty sure it was a driver problem, my fault - nVidia's fault ? - doesn't matter - but once bitten twice shy smiley

Just shows that what works for one doesn't always work for someone else.

But this has to be a video problem and most certainly a driver problem.
Either update the video driver and/or beg borrow or steal another video card but either way COMPLETELY uninstall the previous driver first then install the new driver wink
