Audition CS5.5 was announced about 6 hours ago and our team has raced to try and finalise our ses conversion utility.

We are confident that it will be of significant benefit to Audition users and we will continue to maintain and update it as necessary.

It is donationware so feel free to download it from http://www.aatranslator.com.au/ses2sesx.html

Is this functionality already in AATranslator?

WWW

AATranslator is more of a 'generic' convertor geared toward converting from one company's daw to another and therefore we are limited to 'common ground'.
So a lot of AA specific info doesn't make sense to say PT (not that anything does) or say Reaper.
We do currently read CEP & AA ses files and we do write AA1.5 ses files but we dont provide the degree of detail that this Ses2Sesx application does.

For example it is possible to convert internal fx and their settings including buses (and fx on buses) from AA3 & AA2 an even AA1.5.  It is also possible to convert some supported vsts and their settings from say AA3 to the new sesx format - no mean feat.  We have even converted clip colours! Its not a mirror conversion in every instance but it will be in most.
We don't, for example, convert track automation beyond the usual volume, pan & mute but we could if demand was there.
We also dont convert 'loops' and obviously things like metronome settings (cause there isn't one in AA4).

A lot of things we have developed will go into the next version of AAT but not fx or vsts.

This is a specific product to solve a specific challenge and while a significant effort by myself, John, Ron & Adrian has been invested we have intentionally made it donationware in order to show our support for Adobe and its users and to help users transistion to the new version.  Hopefully those users show their support for our efforts.

Download it and give it a try and you will find that the conversions provide far more detail than anything AATranslator was designed to do in these circumstances.

If there are vsts (and I'm sure there are plenty) that we currently do not support then contact me and we will see what we can do - resources and demand allowing.

Not sure how well known it is, but though AA CS5.5 can import AA3 sessions saved in XML, the current version does not support FX.

However if you save your AA3 session in SES format & use the SES2SESX app you can get Fx, the internal ones that are common to both AA3 & AA4 also ext vst's.

Thanks for the explanation - I was just trying to work out if I upgraded to version 4 whether I would need this tool in addition to my existing copy of AA Translator.

Cheers

For those with an interest in these sort of things Ses2Sesx is now up to version 1.1.0.2

A few little fixes mainly around CEP1.2 & 2.1 session files, Track Mute Automation, AA1.5 Bus routing, added some minimal handling for loops (though not really handled in AA5.5, added support for track & file names containing "&" and improved the memory handling.

Probably best to get the latest.

 huh

Ok, so this might seem like a kind of backwards request, but I actually need to open an AA4 session (sesx) in AA3.  Know any way to go about that/  There are no effects or slider moves to worry about, but there are markers, and things are locked in time.  I would really appreciate any help that could be offered.

Thanks,

That one is an easy one www.aatranslator.com.au will do it except that version of AAT is not due for release until later this week.

Send me your sesx file (no audio) via the AATranslator web site

I have spent a chunk of today working on additional automation lanes (those other than Volume, Pan & Mute) and have just added Track Send Automation (Power On/Off, Level & Pan) and have got a fair bit of the 'Insert FX' lane converting as well.

I have sent this off to JL for testing so expect a new version of Ses2Sesx in the next few days.

Well a lot can happen in a few days - been real sick - lost nearly 3 kilos in 2 days - found we needed a few more important things to the app.

We have added complete support for the master track and any fx etc on it, we also got the +6db clip envelope option sorted out (my bad) along with dealing somewhat with foreign language characters in track names, clip names & file names.

We have added some support for ses files stored in the root folder, some more vsts added and JL has been going crazy testing 2 apps at the same time.

New version due in a day or two I would say.

Edit: Version 1.2 is now available

Found the following issues:-

1. Clip envelpes/keyframes affected by non english languages (eg where commas are in places where decimal points are expected)

2. The Low Shelf Cutoff and High Shelf Cutoff values in the Parametric EQ may be incorrect in non 48k sessions

Both of these issues have been corrected and once testing is complete expect a new version to be released.

WWW

We released version 1.2.0.4 of Ses2Sesx a couple of hours ago.

Essentially it has the following fixes:-

1. Clip envelopes/keyframes affected by non english languages like Italian where commas are in places where decimal points would be in English
2. The Low Shelf Cutoff and High Shelf Cutoff values in the Parametric EQ may be incorrect in non 48k sessions
3. Some FX on Busses (if there is more than one FX) may not get converted
4. Settings for a Parametric EQ on an AA1.5 Buss not getting correctly converted

Many thanks for those who have supported our efforts with their donations
