Hi Guys and Gals,
Here is something I do to archive with cool edit pro. I save the actual data sessions to CD. then when salespeople come to me in 2-3 weeks for a word or music change i can insert the back up CD and call up the session! it's saved my butt TOO MANY times.

Never thought of using a CD. I usually use a zip drive for the same purpose.

Hey Guys. I'd definitely agree with Bob. CD archiving is the greatest (even moreso than zip) because you can have up to 700mb of storage (with those newer 80minute discs) and store very large sessions/and files, without the hassle of having to bounce them between several ZIPs. I would be careful with archiving to CDRW though; having your precious work on a re-writeable disc would not be my first choice, and besides, CDRs are SO cheap anyway. Make it permanent, but keep it forever...Hey, isn't that the whole idea of archiving anyway?

CD backups are definitely the way to go--so easy to do. Not a bad idea to do even if you are in the middle of your project, just in case one of your wavs gets corrupted or your computer blows up, etc.

Since we were using ADATs prior to CEP, we back up our sessions to ADAT tape. Using a soundcard with an ADAT output it's unbelievably easy to do. Besides, we didn't have to throw out 3 ADATs worth x-thousand bucks, which still had YEARS of life in them.

If I'm doing a recording for someone I archive to CD-R after each session. This adds about $20.00 bucks to a $5000.00 project.Big deal!

Not trying to sound too much like an idiot, but could someone please explain to me (step-by-step) the archive-to-disc procedure? Does this mean I could load the project back up and all the wave files would be in the appropriate tracks, etc. so certain elements could be changed/updated? I can do this with CEP when I save the session files, and each individual wave file, but if I could archive to disc like this, I'll buy everyone a beer!
THANKS!

I'll take a...Hefe Weisen! but first, make sure when you save your files (all your elements) that they are in the same sub-directory. then use a program like directCD from adaptec (comes with CD creatoe 4) and just open a windows explorer window and click and drag over the sub directory to the appropriate CD. make sence???
