There are a couple of display-related changes you can apply to fix the problem.
1. Uninstall and re-install CEP.
Start > Programs > Cool Edit Pro > Uninstall Cool Edit Pro. Select Full uninstall.
2. Install DirectX 7.0a (if you dont have it already; there is also version 8, though some prefer the older standby)
Install updated video card driver
3. Change your frame speed to 50.
Make sure CEP is closed.
Start > Find > Files or folders.
Search for "cool.ini" on your C:\ and all the sub directories.
It may find a few cool.ini files.
Dbl-click on them to open them in note pad.
Search for: "framespeed" and change it's value so it reads:
Framespeed=50
Save the file. Do the same thing for all other cool.ini files.
4. Options > Settings > Multitrack.
Change background mix priority level to 1.
5. Options > settings > Multitrack.
Change Playback Buffer Size (response time) to 1
6. Options > settings > Multitrack.
Change Display Waveforms At 18 Vertical Pixles.
7. Set your video card colors to: High Color 16-bit. My Computer > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Color Palette > High Color 16-bit
8. Run Scan Disk and Disk Defragmenter.
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
9. Options > Settings > System.
Increase wave cache size based on the following table:
64MB RAM --- 8192 Wave Cache Size
128MB RAM --- 16384 Wave Cache Size
256MB RAM --- 32768 Wave Cache Size
10. Options > Settings > System.
Increase Peaks Cache size to 512.
Now close your session and delete all .pk files that are associated with your audio files so they can be re-created using larger value.
11. While in MT view with your session Open, Select Edit > Refresh Now
This will force a rebuild of your MT display.
12. If you have problem with a specific waveform, you can right click on it and select "Full" for CEP to reset display on that waveform.
13. If you have a DMA HD and Motherboard, Turn on the DMA option in Windows 98.
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Disk Drives.
Dbl-Click on your Disk Drive in that list. It should say something like "Generic IDE Disk Type 47". Select Settings and check DMA option (if not already checked). It will pop up a warning about problems you may have. If you have Pentium II 300 or faster, you probably won't have any trouble. You may need to reboot your machine. You should notice a large improvement in the speed.
