I have noticed that in Cool Edit 2000 you can create short cuts for recording and other features. Is there a way to get this into the real world say maybe through the serial port and allow the record function to be wired to a remote start button say on the console?

Hi there. The other shortcut options you have, in lieu of using 'keyboard' shortcuts, are to use either MIDI notes (from a midi keyboard/synth) OR MIDI controller values (from a MIDI keyboard or controller) to trigger functions in Cool Edit.

You can map any of the shortcut functions (found in Options>Shortcuts) to MIDI controllers or note values. You may want to look into something like one of the JL Cooper devices.
