I am trying to record from tape to HD and everytime I do it, I get hiccups and choppiness. OF COURSE, I defragment and clean my HD everytime i record. I have used several settings of buffer/sec, but so far I have not been able to find the right one. Can someone help me?

it all depends on how your tape input is setup, but I suggest you change your recording settings.try changing your samplerate,or move away from 16 bit recording

bonomau,
It sounds to me like a hardware issue not
software. These symptoms have occured
in my system(s) when I've had hard drive, and sound card problems. For simple recording
through the line in jack, it shouldn't matter
what your sample rate is - as long as your card supports it. I would try replacing my
sound card temporarily with any cheap 16 bit
sound card, as they all will do the job. (Of course, some sound better.) That way you can
basically eliminate the sound card as the problem and spend the least $. If the problem
is still there chances are it's not the card and you can return it ..then look toward other hardware. If the problem's gone you're
all set. If recording is really important to you, as a drastic move you can fdisk/reformat
your HDD, load ONLY windows and your sound card - NO OTHER CARDS OR SOFTWARE - and try recording again. This will eliminate many possible hardware and software conflicts as
the problem.
Good luck.
Bill

Hi bono. Well, I'd have to say that it is more than likely a soundcard driver issue than anything else. It could also certainly be your settings in the Options>Settings dialog.

I would recommend emailing support@syntrillium.com and we can send you a complete list of optimizations to try. Please include your system info in your email. From with in the Cool Edit application look under Help>About Cool Edit> System Info button. Just highlight ALL the text in the text document and paste this into an e-mail.
