What is it precisely CEP supports? Is it the use of multiple sound devices at once? I mean, if I did go buy a sound card and it only showed up as one (stereo) device i would only be able to use two multiple inputs and outputs at once?

I miss a list over sound cards that CEP supports, because I'm seriously considering buying CEP and a decent sound card instead of the more expensive solutions like Digi001, but I don't want to buy a sound card that isn't supported by CEP

CEP will support just about any soundcard, provided that the card has Windows MME drivers. Good drivers are largely a result of being compatible with the different versions of windows. Just about everyone has rock-solid drivers for Win98, Win95 and WinNT. Win2K and WinMe, however, are not as widely recognized in the audio driver world...not yet anyway.

Regarding the Digi001, though it performs flawlessly under protools (as, that is really what it is designed to work with) we have heard that under CEP (and other apps) it's input devices do not show up properly. Not to say that it won't give you great sound..but it's meant for ProTools, and there are certainly other alternatives that will offer the same fidelity.

Echo, Midiman, Creative, Turtle Beach, Frontier Designs to name a few...all Happy Cool Edit supporters!
