Out of the blue I am having problems with my Darla soundcard/CE2K. If I bring up a stereo file in CE2K, I can record on both channels. But if I bring up a mono file, only input number 1 is accepted by cool edit. I've tried swapping out the patch cords and I've reloaded the drivers. What should I check? Thanks in advance.

I don't know a lot about CE2K, but if you do have at least the plug in for multitracking, you should be able to open two mono tracks, assigning each one to one or the other of the two inputs on the card.
If you don't have the multitrack ability (and I'm guessing again since you didn't say) then you will be stuck recording a single mono file or a single stereo file.
I'm drawing inferences here from other peoples' posts about Cool Edit 2000, as I use Cool Edit Pro, myself.
If it turns out this isn't true, then Synt Support can beat me sharply about the head and shoulders.....

;-D

If you were able to do what you mentioned above prior to this, then I really haven't a clue about your problem without seeing more information about your system and its config.
At a minimum, you do need the multitrack ability to do this.

All the best... -Jon

Yes I have and use multitrack. But most of the time I only want a mono or stereo file. Point of clarification, A darla soundcard has only 2 inputs.

With a mono file, what settings do I need to make it so that both inputs of my darla card are activated?

Hi again, Jay...

Now that I know what you're wanting to do...

The solution here is a simple software transform. Record your stereo waveform, then choose mixdown to mono.
You now have your mono file with both the left and right channel information together - save as a new file.

All the best... -Jon

Opps. Please let this thread die. The problem can be traced to the muddle headed observations of a public radio reporter just back from a week of fundraising.
