is there ANY way, in the future, Syntrillium, that you can work on the time compression issues. i speak of the time it takes to squeeze a 63 sec spot to 60 and, even at the highest quality, there is still alot of VERY unacceptable digital distortion. as much as i DONT like sonic foundry, i have started to use their time compression plugin exclusivly because its faster AND has much better quality. maybe i'm just not using it right!!! sorry to bag on CEP.

Are you selecting High Precision? With such a small change in time, the time compression should really be virtually unnoticeable. I've done tests shrinking 'voice-only' files down as much as 25% with few audible artifacts...In your case (with a change of roughly 5%) the process time (and sound) should be fast and accurate. Perhaps a corrupt install/filter is to blame here?

Let us know some specs on your machine, and what your settings are.

I'll add that I can't reliably use CEP time compression more than 3% without getting noticable artifacts. Sure I got it up to 20% once, and 10% a copule of times, but in general 5% is more than the software can handle.

As for squeezing a 63" v/o down to 60, my first suggestion would be to edit out all the breaths. It sounds wierd dry, but with a bg you won't notice. The second suggestion is to use Delete Silence which finds all kinds of tiny pauses and cuts them out. You have to play with the levels to get the most silence out while still retaining the top and tail of words. The last thing I try is time compression. If I was desparate, I'd resample it (time and pitch) 2% first then get any extra gains I need by just time compression.
