Just loaded the new version the other night and seems rock solid! There is a new feature which is very handy, it is called Direct CD, it allows you to format a CDR or CDRW so you can drop and drag your .wav's inside widows explorer, very nice!!!

If I might interject a word of caution about packet writing software.
I get a lot of such discs sent to me because they have become unreadable and in nearly every case we have 1) not been able to recover the information and 2) They were written with Adaptec Direct CD.
Maybe the latest version is an improvement on the old, but I do know I had a lot of trouble with an earlier version of Direct CD myself. Not only did it not always work properly, it did not co-exist happily with a lot of other CD writing software which I have. In the end, I decided that it was more trouble than it was worth and took it off the system.
On the other hand, if you really want one, I can recommend another packet writer - InCD. This comes from the people who gave you Nero (which a lot of members here use and like) and has never crashed or caused me any trouble since it was installed.

Hi Graeme,
I, too, have Roxio's EZ Creator 5 Platinum Ed. And, yes, sometimes these direct CD disks arent always readable in some CD ROMS, especially those that arent 'multi-read' and also on DVD drives. Whats your opinion on NTI's CDMaker2000Pro? I heard that its great and easy to use too. Also, the prog you recommended, InCD: Can this program read disks that were created with DirectCD? Thx for your help and reply.

Never used it, so I have no opinion about this application.

Apparently Easy CD creator version 5.0 has major problems running under Win2000. Blue screens, lockups and crashes etc. Roxio have some stuff on their website about this. The consensus out there is don't touch version 5.0 with a ten foot barge pole! I'm not sure if patches are out for Win2000 yet but I think I would avoid it all together until the problem is definately sorted.
Cheers Pundit

I forgot to mention in my orignal post that I am running Windows 98. It is flawless with this operating system. I have yet to lock it up.

Watch packet writing software. Typically, it reads TOC into RAM, and then rewrites to CDRW when the disc is ejected. If you crash while your CDRW is in the burner, your TOC doesn't match the data and you have a coaster.
I dunno if newer versions do this, but EZCDC 4 & before did. If you use InCD or DCD, I'd do your writing & eject the disc - don't leave it in there.
