I am getting back into radio after a 8 year stint out...and man am I lost. The digital era has me boggeled. Got the Cool Edit program for a starter and can't get the quality voice repo I need. Don't have a huge budget, so would like suggestions for cheapest way to it. Mic and pre amp, or good mic and low end pre amp...visa versa?? Any help..thanks.

They're posting like crazy!! Check out your other thread...
'Microphone suggestions for Cool Edit'
I might also add, regarding pre-amps, that there are some nice, fairly inexpensive, single channel tube mic-pres that are great for broadcast...namely, the joe meek (forget the exact model number) and the ART MPA (not the Pro MPA, as that is a dual channel tube preamp...the single channel one is inexpensive, and sounds great!)
Of course, if you need multiple pres, nothing beats a small Mackie mixer for the bucks! (ie, 1202vlz, 1402vlz XDR)

I use a Shure SM-7A mic through a Mackie VLZ-1402 mixer into a LynxOne audio card, then into Cool Edit Pro. I get better sound with this setup than I do in my radio stations' production studio.

I 'second' the SM-7A. One of my personal faves, and a great deal.

... And just discontinued! Anyone know how the SM7B compares? (for real, not on paper)
