I need to hook up my keyboard for recording in cep, this is what i have:
roland is plugged midi out and midi in to MidiMan inA and outA. Midiman is plugged into my USB port. The roland speaker out is plugged to mixer line in 9-10. I dont know if i need to plug my midi cables from the keyboard to the roland or the midiman. I want the roland to playback the instruments also instead of the keyboards instruments. I would really appreciate it if someone will help me. Thanks alot in advance :-)

Hello Bryan. If you're simply recording the Audio Output of the JV-1010, but need to trigger it with your keyboard, I don't know why you'd introduce the MIDIMAN device at all. Just connect the MIDI OUT of your keyboard to the MIDI IN of the JV1010. Now, select the appropriate MIDI channels for both and connect the LINE OUTS of the Roland into the Mixer. Whatever you play on the keyboard will be triggered through the Roland. Send those outputs through your mixer into Cool edit and Voila!

Thanks for the reply, i really appreciate it.

i also wanted to be able to play *.mid files from the computer via the roland jv-1010, so i have the midiman to connect the 2 of them together... if i unplug the midi in that comes from the midiman(and the computer) i get no playback for that. but then i would be able to plug the keyboard into the roland midi in.... i think i need to be able to plug the computer and the keyboard both to the roland at the same time(only using one at a time) does a Y midi cable jack exist?
Again, I appreciate your help :-)
Bryan

Hi. There's no "Y" midi per se, because that's what MIDI Thru is for, which your keyboard (and JV) undoubtedly have. It just depends on the amounts of ins and outs you have. You Obviously want a Midi Out from the MIdiman box to go to the Roland. That's what you want as the playback device; therefore, you could simply go Out from the Keyboard to Midi In of the MIDIMAN...You odn't need to hook up the keyboard's midi in because you DON'T want to use it to playback midifiles or sounds!

aaa, it works now, thank you again Smile i had rolands midi out plugged into the midi in on the midiman(useless) where the keyboard was suppose to be plugged into.. I dont think their is anyreason for the roland to have to send signals back to the computer since its plugged into my mixer. Thanks alot
