how can i use steinberg or others vst plug-ins on cool edit pro 2.0?
i already use these ones on fruity loops 3.0 without problems.
on cep2.0,when i do the refresh it detect only few or them.for example the BBE Sonic Maximizer works, on the contrary the steinberg maximizer doesn't appear on the dx list.
i can use the steinberg plug-ins on fruity just copying the .dll files in the fruity vst folder.this way doesn't work with cep2.0.what i have to do to resolve this problem on cool edit pro?
thank you
ciao

Although serving the same end, DX and VST are different and most certainly not interchangeable. Essentially, it comes down to what the host program understands. I know nothing about Fruity Lopps, but I can tell you that Syntrillium products will only host DX - not VST (or even DXi)
However, there is a solution - you can use another piece of software, known as a 'wrapper'. This will make a VST plug-in look like a DX one to the host program. There's several of these about and I should think the best known one is by Spin Audio.
One thing, of which you should be aware, is that some users have reported problems with certain DX plug-ins on CEP2 - although these same plug-ins worked fine on the earlier versions.
BTW, you shouldn't need to copy the .dll files around - CEP will search your complete system for useable plug-ins and list all those it finds. If it can't find it, it's either not a DX or has some other problem.

Hi METALMAN! it's easy! when your plugin starts with
the name -Steinberg- ,don't spend your time it's not gonna work with CEP! cuz there's a big chance it's a VST. i'm not using FRUITY LOOPS, i didn't know he was taking VST !

Hello Metal. Graeme's right on the money here. Incidentally, if you purchased something like the 'Mastering Edition' from Steinberg (which includes the Maximizer), all of the plugins are offered in both VST and DirectX, right on the CD. You might try installing the DX versions as well.

I would be very cautious about any Steinberg plug ins. I use a number of DX plug ins and many VST plug ins with the FXpansion wrapper... no problem. I could never get the Steinberg Mastering Edition (and had some problems with Quadra Fuzz as well) to work with CEP or several of their non-Steinberg competitors. I e-mailed Steinberg and essentially they said... go away, don't bother us.
At least in the version I have, not all (but several) of the Mastering Edition plug ins come in both DX and VST versions.... but it made no difference, I couldn't get them to work in either version with CEP. I was chatting with someone about a Steinberg soft synth and he could not get it to work in a non-Steinberg host. There should also be a couple of posts about this on this forum if you do a search.
That being said, I have lots of plug ins and they prett much all work with the exception of Steinberg.
Take Care

I've been hearing this same type of complaint too many times.
I give Steinberg due respect for their pioneering of Virtule Studio Technology (VST); but nonetheless they seem to have went the Microsoft/Explorer route with an open format -that's in effect not open in regards to their(Steinberg's)own unique brand of DX. So I say screw'm, they're certainly not the only game in town.
