I have used Cool Edit pro for years as a radio reporter, but a question comes to mind: is there a better way to hit multiple cuts rather than having them in the preview window and clicking or autoplaying them? Is there a way to line them up in order and fire them off as you're reacing a script live? Can they be fired using a spacebar macro?

Thanks, Steve Knight, CBS News/Radio, NYC

PS---Any other radio reporters out there with tips and tricks we can share?

In Cool Edit 2000 you can assign file play to keys, not I think in CEPro 2.0.

Steve: You can line up your cuts in CE2K if you name them with numbers. 1 being your first cut...Then you can just use your arrow keys to scroll down...It works fine if you want a feel for how your story/cast will sound. But if you are going live, I think you will be happier if you fork out a modest amount of cash for another program. I've been told Fast Edit works good for this, though I've not tried it myself. I'm sure others on the forum can suggest other programs...

In CEP2.0 there's the 'autocue' button in the playlist, (plays the cue then stops) but in the keyboard shortcuts I can't see a way of mapping a key to that button - shame!

I'm the Technical Operations Manager at WTOP Radio, the all-newser in Washington, DC. We use CE2K w/Studio plug-in on all our newsroom workstations and on reporter laptops in the field. The plug-in especially allows our people to produce very high-quality pieces with nat sound and multiple bites in just a few minutes. Don't know what we'd do without CoolEdit.

One of our reporters' favorite tricks is to use the Telephone Bandpass filter to clean up phone audio. Of course the filter is designed to make studio sound SOUND like a phone call, but it has the nice side benefit of doing an excellent job of cleaning up phone noise.
