I have a WAV recording with some varying sound levels that ideally should be measured in dBA values ('A' weighting).

I've looked at Aurora (http://www.ramsete.com/aurora) but this feature seems some way off: "Advanced IIR frequency and temporal analysis for the evaluation of tonal and impulsive components in environmental noise measurements, following the Italian regulations. This module will compute the 1/3 octave spectrum of the minima of the SPL-FAST values, and the temporal histories of the A-weighted SPL with the three time constants Slow, Fast and Impulse. The module will check these results against the Italian limits, and suggest the resulting penalties which have to be added to the measured Leq."

Is anyone aware of an alternative ?

TIA, Regards,

Dave Purdy

Waves has the PAZ which, with the 3.5 update, is finally available on the PC. It has two weighting options, as well as none.

Many thanks - I've looked at the Waves web site for PAZ and it looks promising. I downloaded the Waves v4 demo but could not get it to work (e.g. no sign within Cool Edit 2000). The next option I think is to adjust the Cool Edit filter settings as an approximation to dBA.

Don't forget to "update the list" in CE.

Thanks - but there is no Transform/DirectX/...

Only Transform:
- Amplitude
- Delay Effects
- Filters
- Noise Reduction
- Special
- Time/Pitch

I'm using Cool Edit 2000 / Win 98 SE if that helps.

DirectX is a downloadable free add-on for CE2000 (as memory serves me) - see the main part of this site for details. Without it, DirectX effects will not work.
