I am looking to hear some tips on this mix that I am having some trouble on. This is my buddy and I's first recording we did everything with a AKG 3000 mic in our school studio. I took sound recording and learned the technical aspect behind plug ins and filters like compression and eq and reverb and such but now when I am actually mixing the tracks I am finding it hard to mix them together and utlize my knowlegde of the plug ins. All the song is is an acoustic guitar and vocals we layed down over the guitar on a seperate track. Its a cover song of Unwritten Law - Cailin. The problem I am having is the vocals almost sound too close to the front and because i have no experience with recording other projects I'm not sure what to do. I want to know if I should compress the vocals more or what i should do to make them sound more mixed together. After that I will add a little reverb. Another question i have is should i add reverb to the master effects or only the vocals? How much? What is a good brand reverb plug in? Below is a link to the song in mp3 form. Any tips are very appreciated - thanks.

The vocals will sound even more up front if you compress them. Reverb sets them back in the mix.

And using reverb to the master effects (or both) is a matter of taste and style. Just experiment and listen what you like best.

And that brings me to the last point: you said that your mixes don't sound cohesive yet but that's all part of the learning process. You learn by mixing. It's very cliche but you learn from your mistakes. I myself have to learn alot so but I've learned a bit by actually recording, mixing and reading these forums!

I came to think of this: I couldn't listen to your audio. One of those places said that the page didn't exist anymore.
