I do a lot of Automotive spots with Cool Edit Pro. Generally, I record the VO line by line. I then process each segment with different eqs, reverb, pans, etc. This causes a huge volume difference between the various segments. I have tried group normalizing, but it hasn't worked to my satisfaction. I am having to amplify (up or down) each individual segment which takes a lot of time to get right. Does anyone have a suggestion?

The group waveform normalisation in CEP2.1 seems to be an improvement over that in CEP2.0 - have you got the latest version? For most users, it's well worth having anyway.

It's probably the "hard way", but I always use the volume envelopes for this sort of thing...I guess I like the more precise control over each segment's level. Or sometimes split the whole thing up onto different tracks and use the track volume to achieve the same result (works OK if you're just dealing with as many tracks as you can view on your screen at once).

Hi,
I have the same problems with Normalizing different loudnesses. If I record an interview with a microphone all answers are different loud (in 1 group!). In wavelab I saw something like a "compressed" task, which did exactly what I wanted. The same loudness during the whole recording, if words were spoken loud or silent. Who helps? (I have Cool Edit 2000)

Eva, in CE you will find compression under EFFECTS, AMPLITUDE, DYNAMIC PROCESSING.

In Cool Edit 2000, the 'Effects' menu is called the 'Transform' menu - Eva, if you see references in this forum to the 'Effects' menu, members are probably talking about Cool Edit Pro, but you will often find the same options in the 'Transform' menu of your program.
