Quick question from a newcomer..
Have CEP 1.2 and just got a Quattro. I'm trying to record four tracks at a time - but I don't think it is possible because CEP doesn't support ASIO.

If you have a solution, either post or reply. thanks.

Jim

I believe you've basically answered your own question, so I'll just confirm it... No, CE doesn't support ASIO.
;)

Best.... -Jon

Just in case you are not already aware. Some programs that support ASIO are fairly expensive. The least expensive that I know is n-Track Studio. It produces wav files that will open into CoolEdit. Thus, while it may not be as convenient as you wish, it is possible.

Why dosent CEP support ASIO?

It seems to be a solid standard.

ok what

I knew CEP doesn't support ASIO, but I didn't realize that this affected the number of tracks recorded. How many tracks CAN you record with CEP? (is it just one? Sad )

Thanks Andy, but I was wondering more general, as well. Does the limited number of tracks have to do with the Quattro's inability to send a lot of information through USB? The reason I ask is because I was wondering what the maximum number of recordable tracks with CEP is, given that it doesn't support ASIO, if equipment isn't an issue.

The Quattro limitation is and isn't USB. I have a DUO, which will not record at 88.2 or 96 (or 48, the last time I tried it, although I though that was working fine before) using its MME drivers but will with ASIO drivers (and a supporting recording application). USB is a bottleneck, but it apparently can be used more efficiently or less efficiently.

AS far as how many tracks at once into CEP, I don't remember. There have been various discussions that you may be able to turn up with the search facility. I seem to recall there are OS systems limitations, so that the maximum number of inputs varies depending upon which version of Windows one is running.

It may also depends upon how powerful one's computer is; too little RAM or too few CPU cycles are definite killers once they are doing all they can do. Whether or not that particular limit is dependent upon the type of driver, I have no idea.
