Okay, VooDoo got me jealous and thinking about a new mic, so I made the rounds at the music stores. Seen lots of mics, mostly new, but no real bargains. I checked E-Bay, and found a brand new Superlux something A, a one inch diaphram mic, for $49, I put a bid on it and won it for $51.00, I had seen one earlier in the day at one of the music stores, and the guy was telling me he had one in his studio and it was a really great sounding mic for only $150.00. So I beat his price by $99.00 !! Yea !!! I don't know if it's a good mic or not, as I haven't heard it yet, but we'll see. For $51.00 I can't go too far wrong. I can always use it for ambience or a back-up...or a door stop. It's kind of nice looking, sort of like the Rodes 1A, and I can get an optional shock mount for it. From a couple of reveiws I read about it, it got a couple of thumbs up. I'm thinking to do some 5.1 recordings I should have a few more mics.

Here's the link to the Superlux I got:

From what I've read, The Asian manufatures are selling mics under various unknown names, and are basically the same. In the sound check reveiws I read, they compared favorably to the AKG 414 & a Rodes, and were considered warm sounding, and quiet. So using it with the Tubessence pre-amp, should make it sound even better. It has a flatter response than the Sennhieser 421, and can be used with an optional shock mount, a feature I like. It has a 1" diaphram which I've been wanting to try for awhile for acoustic guitar recordings.
Presently, all I have is a Sennheiser 421, an AKG C-1000, Gold line Pick-up, and a couple of dj mikes, so an upgrade to my mic collection is needed. I'm hoping it works good for vocals, guitar, and tamborine.
I saw a couple of SM-57's at the music store for $70. They are good mics and a great find for a buck each !! Your Boss should be happy to know you could re-sell them on e-bay for a nice profit.

| Quote: | | Your Boss should be happy | Well... to be totally truthful, she doesn't really mind all that much. And, she's probably more guilty than I am about sporatic purchases. I've managed to amass ALOT of gear over a stretch of years. These days, when I make a purchase it is definitely a more narrow/methodical approach. The thing you have to watch with "the Boss" is making a casual comment about any specific gear. She thinks she's being sneaky and on the next "present buying" occasion... guess what? Yep, she's bought something that you may not have necessarily wanted or needed. FWIW, she's a vocalist herself, so I can usually justify a mic purchase.
