Yes, Guitar Center did have the Echo Mia for $99 but the store I go to could not get any more in so I did not get one Sad. But I did get the M-Audio 2496 instead, and with the rebate, it was only $125. Any ways it is up and running and works great. I am running WIN98 SE, and Cool Edit 2000. Of course I can not get it to record in 24bit, but it does 88.2 khz just fine. Of course I can still have it record in 32 bit (which I guess the drivers do the conversion). When I go under options (CE2K options) it tells me that 24 bit is unavailable. Oh well 16 will have to do.

The other bummer is, that with the sound blaster I was getting levels about -3db peak, with the m-audio, I am getting -12db.

Search the forum for the name of the card - I have a distant memory that there's a professional / domestic level setting somewhere on the card or mixer.

There's a whole Maudio Delta control panel to fiddle with that sits in my Windows XP tray, I download updates from the Maudio website. I double click on it and there's a patch panel and mixer for setting the levels and stuff. Maybe you can punch the levels up there like ozpeter says.

The Audiophile records just fine at 96kHz in CE2K under Win98SE, I can't guess why you might be having problems, since you described nothing.

32 bit is 24 bit. There are dozens of explanations of how and why this is so, in response to other people's confusion, in the hardware section, and probably more frequently, in the CoolEdit section.

The input level is not variable on this card. The suggested option is only for output signals. The input level you get with the Audiophile is the level you put into it. Unlike the SB, there is no on-card amplification. Your comment suggests you are feeding it a signal over which you have not control, such as the output of a phono preamp. In such a case, -12dB is plenty, especially if you record at 32 bit.

I am sorry my mistake I am not having trouble recording at 96k, I have just selected the 88.2 option. I picked 88.2 because I am going to downsample to 44.1 at the end of the processes, and I figured, and I think read in this forum that the 2 - 1 ratio goes a little better for that.

I have read about the 32bit is 24bit and you are right it is confusing, I was wondering if there was a way to prove it out, as how my soundblaster also allowed 32bit recording (and I know that was only a 16bit card, that is just my weird nature, I will always wonder is it really doing 24bit Big Grin. And I guess I will have to live with the -12db, as how that is all my Carver C-1 will put out.

And yes I did find the mixer, and I do have everything cranked all the way up. I could never do that with the SB, too much hiss then.

oops, sorry now I remember. Yes in fact when I plug a tape deck directly to it the signal is a few db too hot so I have to stick a piece of equipment in between to lower the level since my deck doesn't have a level control.
