I just visited the Echo website. The Mia has been
DISCONTINUED. According to the site, they will continue
to offer full support and drivers. If you're thinking
of buying one, grab one while you still can.

Since the stores have recently been knocking this card out at quite a respectable discount (see posts in other threads) I don't really think this news should come as much of a surprise to anyone. It was almost certainly because this model was going to be discontinued (presumably in favour of the Mia/Midi).
Fortunately, there still seem to be a few about, so anyone wanting a better card than they currently have, it's good advice to go get one now.

You may have visited the site, but you clearly didn't read it very well, or understand what it meant. To say that the Mia has been 'discontinued' is mischievous, to say the least. It has been EXTENDED. The MiaMIDI is exactly the same card as a Mia, only with a MIDI port added - that's why it's called a MiaMIDI. Why on earth would they discontinue their best-selling card?
I'd say that your thread title was misleading. And that if you'd bothered to read any of the recent threads about the Mia on this forum, you would have realised that we knew this anyway. And since Echo are selling the MiaMIDI for the same price that the Mia was previously, it's also something of a bargain.

Steve, my intention was not meant to mislead or to be "mischievious",
and if it was, I apologize to all. There are many here who use this card (the sans MIDI version) and many, myself included, who are recent purchasers of this version. I thought those who own it might like to know the card is no longer being manufactured, but will remain fully supported by Echo. And I thought the info might be useful to those considering an imminent purchase, to assist in their choice of finding a MIA or going for the new MIA/MIDI. Not all of us (including newer forum members like myself) have the time to wade through months of postings here to learn of the evolution of the card from MIA to MIA/MIDI.
Again, sorry
Rick

That is why there is a search engine... or do you have some sort of pathalogical objection to using it?

The toothache remains chronic for a while - until the dentist decides upon the best way of extracting the maximum amount of money from me, I think. Have you ever come across a poor dentist?
But this hasn't got anything to do with toothache - this thread is just plain ridiculous. It is a completely unncessary thread - unresearched, unfounded and intellectually lazy. I accept rickter's apology - in one sense it's not really him I'm getting at. It's just the general attitude. Now, we have another thread that has to be searched through every time anybody does a search (if they can be bothered) about something that's already been talked about recently in some depth, and the very least that you can say about this thread is that the title is misleading.
Do you really want a forum where the threads detract from its value?

Well written; solid information; carefully orgainzed and indexed; might be a utopian ideal, but this forum is still much better than most. SteveG is just railing against the tide coming in and going out. I like to direct my vituperation against the neighbor's dog, where it does just as much good.
"I think sometimes, Why, this people mean well, they are only ignorant; they would do better if they knew how: why give your neighbors this pain to treat you as they are not inclined to? But I think again, This is no reason why ..." The topic has been considered many times, but my observations are that reason has yet to prevail, and probably won't in the next thousand years.

Well, the whole thing was news to me, anyway, (probably because I don't have such a card - yet - and haven't read mia-related threads very carefully) - and via this thread the situation is now abundantly clear!

Without the toothache, perhaps SteveG would have cordially pointed out how (what steps to take) the misleading title could be changed by the author to something a bit more on point (like "The MIA Morphs"). That would have been useful.
