I just purchased a M-Audio Quattro. The manual mentions ASIO, and I've figured out that cool edit only seems to work in the MME mode. What is ASIO? Does Cool Edit Pro 2.1 support ASIO? If not, why not? Are there any plans in the future to support ASIO? If not, what software can I use to access all 4 ports of the Quattro?
Didn't know this was 20 questions, did ya?
Thanks
Jon

There's no ASIO support in CEP. It is a proprietry system developed by Steinberg to cut down on latency. If you use WDM drivers, it probably won't make a lot of difference. CEP doesn't use ASIO, because it doesn't use multiple output streams in the way that just about every other audio S/W does - background mixing takes most of the sting out of this.
Don't have a Quattro, so can't tell you the answers to what to do with that - but if you do a search, you may well find more info in the forum - they've been mentioned before.

The least expensive recording software with ASIO support I know about is n-Track Studio. You can record there, then open the files in CE to process.
