What is everyone's opinion on this mic. Is this an excellent mic for vocals?

I've got 2 and I like them. Recently someone one the forum bought the same model and had a problem with noise... Be sure and "test drive" whatever you are shopping for, before laying down the $$$.

One of the big knocks on the octava mics is consistency, so do as voodoo says and try before you buy.

What do you mean by "noise"?

If I remember correctly, it was a low frequency hum. SteveG, later posted in that (if I remember correctly) that it was probably the body of the capsule causing it. I did have a similiar problem with a Rode NT1, but changing over from their stand-mounting bracket to a proper shock mount solved my problems. I have several Oktava's and haven't had any problems what-so-ever. Again, I recommend that whatever mic you opt to purchase that you give it a good listen before buying.

Thanks for the advice, so then I guess this is a good vocal mic.

Sure, the one's I've got have proven very good for tracking vocals. FWIW, I've also mic'd an acoustic guitar with them as well.

I'm the whiner. I have a pair of 319's and bought a pair of 219's at GC when I was offered the display units for $115 for the pair. It was not hum or noise that was the issue.
See 'Oktava 319 handling noise (ringing)'thread for details - it is simply that the capsule mount has a natural frequency and any light contact on the housing produces a low frequency "ring". I found this with my 319's. VooDoo said is 219's don't do that and since the difference between the 319's and the 219's is only the housing design I thought I'd give them a whirl.
Once I got them home I found the 219's had the same ring as the 319's. In addition, one of the capsules in the 219's was a little loose - easy to fix, but more confirmation of Oktava QC. In listening to them I found the 219's to dead/dull - not dark, but lacking in something compared to the 319's.
After messing with the 219's for a day, I decided that I would rather use that money for part of a second SPC3 rather than a pair of mics that sounded worse that those I already have. I took them back. For the small price difference, I think the 319 is better sounding and a better bargain.
FWIW, my C3's also have that ring, but it is a much lower frequency and much quieter.

I have a 218 and it doesnt "ring", and it sounds perfect for vocals, and pretty well on acoustic guitar.
If its in your budget I would pick one up. It's the only mic i use (i know i need to buy more)
Thanks
