Effects > Amplify > Normalize.

Make sure the box that says "Normalize L/R Equally" is UNchecked.

P.S. In versions of Cool Edit other than 2.0 or 2.1, It's Transforms > Amplify > Normalize.

Er, before normalising, can you tell us what you see on the screen? Is the "above" waveform noticeably bigger than the "below" one, or do they look roughtly similar.

If one is bigger than the other, then the material is recorded with that imbalance and the normalising should help you. However, once you've fixed this track you should try to work out WHY it recorded that way and sort out the problem.

On the other hand, if the top and bottom waveforms look about the same, then normalising won't fix your problem. Something is going wrong with your playback, either in your sound card, the wiring from your soundcard, or in your amp/speaker system.

Unfortunately, we'll need quite a lot more information about your computer, sound card, and wiring/monitoring to be able to be much help.

Verify that the Windows mixer BALANCE is not skewed to one side! The horizontal sliders should be in the centre position. The Windows mixer is accessable from a drop menu in CEP.

Also verify that you have stereo patch cords. Look at the plug ends. Does it have Stero (TIP, RING and SLEEVE) or just Mono (TIP and SLEEVE) ??
