I dropped in at audio masters forum, and saw an interesting post there
regarding custom graph colors. Most people are using standard preset color patterns, but I'm not.
I use a light grey background with a few shades darker grey for the grid lines, and a few shades lighter grey for highlighted areas with a dark blue, almost black, waveform and cursor, and a little lighter blue for the highlighted wave. I also make the boundry lines the same color as the background which elimnates them, and gives a cleaner appearance. It's very easy on the eyes, easy to read, and looks very professional.

Once upon a time.... I experimented with "the colours". It actually seemed to cause my machine to misbehave, which I attributed to the video card not having fun. I now use the factory default and... it's very easy on the eyes, easy to read, and looks very professional...........too!

You mean that green & black ????? yuck !!! I never cared for that combination, and tried a number of different things, and settled on the greys. It looks similar to the forums colors here, sort of like working on graph paper. It may seem a little bland, but it's easy to work with, and I never had any problems with the computer acting differently because of it..hmmmm...It also matches the basic 2.1 color scheme really well. There maybe a little blueish/grey tint to it.

Note: I only use the grey color scheme in the edit section, and use the default colors in the multi-track section.
The other factory colors for the edit section seem too harsh, or too bright for me.
The colors in the multi-track section though, do a good job seperating tracks, and makes them easily identifiable. I haven't tried any other color scheme there.

What I was trying was... I had a LARGE session (@ 35 tracks).... I tried to color code like files (i.e. guitars one color, drums one color, vocals, backgrounds, etc..). When I got up to around 15-16 tracks of various colors, the re-draw slowed down substantially. I chocked it up to my video card struggling to keep up. I haven't tried it since.
