Hi all.
Searched the forums and really didn't find any pertinent info so here goes a post.....
I'm about to drop some cash on some gear. I'm looking for some mobile recording capability and some digital editing options. For the time being, I'm trying to avoid the whole ProTools/Laptop route due to its expense. A few years down the road with some experience, training and cash that will be my deal but for now I need something affordable and functional.
I'm looking to buy a yamaha aw4416 16-track to record live performances, rehearsals, etc to 8 tracks and utilize its .wav export functions to transfer the files into CoolEdit for editing. For overdubs to the basic rhythm tracks I intend to mix these rhythm tracks down to 2 tracks in cool edit and pump them back into the yamaha as a reference for overdubs. From here the recorded overdubs will be pumped back into cool edit via .wav export and meshed with the full project.
Is this scenario possible? What are some of the possible problems I may face regarding file transfers, synchronization, etc. Any suggestions for hardware that could make this work better?
My apologies if these inquiries are redundant!
Thanks!

Well, there's this previous thread concerning the aw4416 and others were in the list when I searched using http://www.syntrillium.com/common/search/ (make sure the 'forums' box is ticked). Might be worth checking out while waiting for more specific replies.

Rather than attempting to sync 2 boxes up (seems to be a hassel), why not just dump audio down to CD and then rip the CD into CEP? You could put a timing mark (sharp snare hit) at the beginning of each track and then just line up the marks so that they are in sync.
