please follow the details of my situation carefully, and if you have the answer please let me know.
i began recording the vocals for this song i am recording. 30 seconds in, i messed up, so i stopped recording there, highlighted from just before the mistake point to about 15 seconds beyond that point, and used the punch-in feature. once i had it the way i wanted it, i went to "take history" and chose "merge current take." BUT, what happens is it merges only the portion between the two endpoints of where i had highlighte prior to rerecording the section. anything i recorded beyond where i had highlighted becomes a separate wave block. granted it plays fine (there is no pop or anything of course), but for editing the audio, i have to edit each wave block separately, which makes editing the audio difficult cause you can't deal with the entire vocal track at on time, just portions.
so here is the question: is there a way to combine wave blocks on the same track in multitrack view into ONE wave block? i can't figure out how to accomplish this.
i am using CE pro 1.2
thank you,
john

Edit > Mix down to empty track > Selected Waves? The blocks are probably referring to different files, so that's the way to combine the two files into one, represented thereafter by a single block.

Yup, what Ozpeter says...
...and the work round for the future when you want to use the punch in command to go beyond the end of an existing track is to go to Edit view, put the cursor at the end of the track, and use "Generate Silence" to extend the track far enough to cover what you want to do.

Bobbsy, doesn't "Insert Empty Wave" in the multitrack do this? That's a question rather than a statement because I don't actually use CEP for that style of recording. And I notice that johnblank79 is using 1.2 which I don't have - so that facility may not be there. Any further thoughts?

I not familiar with "insert empty wave" in 1.2. There is Edit/Insert/Delete time.

Ozpeter, AFAIK even in 2.1 (which DOES have this command) "Insert Empty Wave" will create the "silence" okay but it will still be a separate wave block (which is what Johnblank was trying to avoid). I must admit I've never tried a punch in across "the join" but since it's a separate block I assume it would remain that way even after the punch in.
