I have an encountered an annoying and odd problem though I think the solution is easy. Basically I want to record new tracks (by using direct line in from a sound module) while listening to the current tracks play. But whenever I try to record a new track (without doing solo, because if I do solo I can't hear the other tracks as I record) in multitrack mode the new track always includes the stuff I've lined in and a combination of all the other tracks.

To make this clearer, let's say:

Track 1: Drum Loop
Track 2: Bass Loop

Now on track 3 I want to have a piano solo. I go into multitrack, arm track 3 for recording and have my synthesizer lined in directly to my computer (not using a microphone). When I start recording, Track 3 contains a mixture of the drum loop, bass loop and the new piano solo. That is to say if I deleted tracks 1 and 2 and just listened to the new track 3 by itself, I could hear the drums and bass loops in addition to the thing I wanted, which is the piano loop.

Does anyone understand and can anyone help? I've looked at options but I just can't seem to solve this annoying problem. Thanks! (evangorin@yahoo.com)

This sounds like a simple problem with how the Windows mixer is set up (and it's a very common question).

If you go and have a look in the "tips and tricks" section of these forums, and look down the list for a topic called, "setting the Windows mixer", you may very well find your answer.
:)
