my question is how do i get my midi working from my sound card i am using my mpc4000 and want to be able to record into my cool edit can anyone help?

Be aware that CEP2.1 (and no other versions) will only play back a MIDI track inserted in the multitrack view. If you want to mix your MIDI as audio, you'll have to render it - record it onto audio tracks.
I'm sure others here will have more ideas if you can tell us exactly what you've tried so far, connections, setups, etc.

device order is playback devices sb audigy audio 9000ev
recording devices are the same sb audigy audio 90000ev
midi outs sb audigy sytha
midi ins are set to sb audigy midi port 2
device properties are wave out sb audigy 9000
wave in sb audigy 9000
midi out sb audigy syth 9000
midi in sb audigy midi port 9000
external control is empty

Well... like I said, if you insert a MIDI track in Multitrack view (have you tried that? and, furthermore, are you using version 2.1? version 2 is the only one that will do this), you should be able to play something back off the card's synth...
Other than that, I'm thinking that we still don't have quite enough specific information about what the ultimate goal is, here... I'm already assuming a lot. :)
