Since he's only one of three non-Syntrillium people to have earned FIVE STARS on this forum,
congratulations to VoodooRadio on 4,000 posts!

Other than to get a unique charactor, why does everyone want more posts? If it is important, or even just of some benefit maybe there is a way to port these achievements over to audioMasters...

Great job Voodoo ! 8)
Turn the lights out over here when you leave, eh ? :D
I think Voodoo's ratio will take care of any implied ranking or pecking order on the audiomasters site - he's been busy over there too!
Lot's of great advice and fun too !

A milestone, especially under the circumstances! - studiocovers must be very, very grateful. And so say all of us. And Deluxman - nobody puts in that amount of effort just for the stars - it's for the love of the thing!

Ya! Way to go Voodoo!
That's why i was wondering about porting something to the other forum, or maybe creating some audioMasters badge or medals just for fun.

I think they've decided against such practices. He'll just have to print the screen from here, cut out the stars, fix them to one of those conference name badge things, and wear them with pride! And one day, junior will ask, "Daddy, tell us again about the day you got your stars". And VooDoo will say, "Yup, I remember Syntrillium MD driving right up to the front of the house in that big shiny Cadillac they gave him when he joined Adobe, and all the neighbours gathered round and clapped and cheered while he pinned the stars right onto my guitar strap, and I'm real sure I saw a tear in his eye. And then we all sat round and remembered that thread way back in 2002 when I first mentioned the studiocovers site, and......"

Thanks guys! Yes, I'm surprised that I made it as well considering what the future may hold in store for the Synt Forum. The numbers aren't important and mostly reflect a person's inability to manage their time properly. It's been a great place for me to get away and relax (sometimes blow off steam). This place really has alot to offer anyone that will take the time to learn. And... it IS fun if you allow it to be!

At the top of the "Interests" section of your personal profile at AudioMasters.org, put:
* Final Synt Forums posts = ????
* Final Synt Forums stars = ????
Anyone who is curious can look at a person's profile at AudioMasters and compare that person's current AudioMasters number of posts to their final total at Synt Forums (nobody would pad the truth about this in their personal profile, would they?). I notice that VoodooRadio already has 325 posts over there.
BTW - anybody interested in starting a poll / betting pool about who makes the last post over here before the place goes dark??? (But if the place has gone dark, who would see who made the last post???)

No, I just can't agree. It would have to be VoodooRadio trying to get one more newbie to get acquainted with www.studiocovers.com ! Gotta get that final link in!

Must be all those OT brewing posts on the polls forums...
Heh-heh!
Nah, I think Voodoo just writes a lot more than most people do. He passed me by only a few months ago. I notice I'm only at about 3600, and I've been here a few months longer. Steve started in here a little after I did, and he's posted almost twice what I have. Some people are just prolific, I guess!
I suppose congratulations are in order, even though I don't put a lot of weight on the number system, myself... I think I had to be told I had 2000 and 3000 posts, respectively... Heh! I never really paid much attention to my own.
In this case, however, this member does contribute a lot of excellent advise, so congratulations and thanks are quite warranted. ;)
Best... -Jon

This is a little further OT, but as I was reading through Peter's response, I noticed that there is a link at the bottom of the page for jobs at syntrillium.. Hmmm.. been looking for a new job...

Uh, no. Voodoo hasn't shut up for the past week and a half. He's posted in virtually every thread.(Maybe every single thread.) And he hasn't been saying much. But certainly, in the past he's been a major contributor so, whatever he wants to do......but it's been a bit shameless lately.

Voodoo has always had good advice for me, freely given and happily accepted. What's this about this forum is closing! I haven't checked in in months. I have been informed by email that Adobe has bought them up. So everything is going in upheaval now? Why can't this forum be continued as is? Hmm this should be about #320 for me. Do I get an award??? Bum deal if this place is closing.

Obviously .
Adobe have their own forums, but many of the members don't like it, for various reasons, so we have set up an alternative forum. You get there by using the link below.
You'll find all the usual suspects hanging around.

By the way Graeme,
I saw a thread on this forum pointing to the new forum. That link took me to a closed forum. The closed forum then pointed me to your newest forum and the link was dead. There's a typo. The closed forum incorrectly links you to forumS.org when it's really forum.org.

The new alternative forum had to move... the link you used probably went to the old site - and you may have tried to get to the newer one while upgrades (or even the main transfer) was taking place.
Try again at http://www.audiomastersforum.net/phpbb/index.php

I don't know why you're telling me this? The link in my signature line is correct. I think you must have picked up an earlier one, as jonrose suggests.

OK. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Goto the closed forums here:
http://www.separatedband.com/cep/index.php?sid=051b075b03bdae1a2a3792ad2e5c95f1
At the top of the page, the closed forum is referring you to the correct new forum. However, look carefully at the url that takes you to the correct new forum and you will see that it is wrong. It has an S where one should not be, in forumS.org.
I told you Graeme simply because I saw you as one of the moderators on the new forum and I though you'd want to correct it. It's no biggie, but if anyone mistakenly clicks on that link, after being referred to it from a thread on the synt forum here, they will be re-directed to nowhere and they may give up on looking for the new forum since they've already been re-directed once to a closed one and then onto another forum that does not even exist.
Traffic wise, this may not affect alot of users, but you never know, since it is a brand new forum anyhow.

Ah - right. I see what you mean now. I am only a mere moderator and have nothing to do with the technical side of the system - but I will pass your comments on to someone who does. This mistake obviously crept in when it changed servers. Actually, I'm surprised it's not an active link.
Thanks for the tip.

Wow, voodoo. 4,000 posts already? Why, it seems like only yesterday it was a mere 3,999. :-)
My, how time flies when they're getting ready to shut down a forum. :-(
Yeeesh. I take a couple of months off and come back to a freakin fire sale. Well, I for one would sincerely like to thank Voodoo and all the regs - even Beetlebug - for all their help over the past few years. I always knew when I was stumped I could find the solution here. Looking at my Behringer mixer right now (yeah, it's not a Macke, but I'm broke, ok?) and knowing how much I've learned about sound editing from everyone here, I am very thankful and grateful. And sad.
I was already reeling from the Sony acquisition of Sound Forge. And now this. Well, it's a bittersweet milestone, voodoo, but heartiest congrats nonetheless!
And I might as well thank Synt while I'm at it. Thanks for a great product/value/forum, Synt. (And for just deleting the posts of mine you found offensive and not banning me for life, although as we can see from this recent turn of events, "life" is a somewhat relative concept these days.)
But seriously...
Great vibes all!

I'm already signed in, my good friend! But thanks for the warm welcome, nonetheless. (At least that's what it said on the main forum page: Welcome to sk our newest member.) Of course, I can hardly wait to meet up with MODERATOR BEETLE. OMG. What's next? :-) (Can I just purchase some "get out of jail free" cards now...preferably at a bulk discount rate? And save us all a lot of wear and tear.)
Heheheheheh.
Nothing like Sunday night at Synt. (Waiting for the Monday hatchet to come and lop off my posts, etc. But how boring life would be without SOME excitement, after all. Right?)

I have indeed read through this thread in its entirety. And I must say that the mere notion that Voodoo would engage in shameless posting merely to reach the 4,000 post mark is, well...shameless.
HAHAHAHAHAH.
Ah, it's good to laugh 8)
I particularly liked the conundrum about who might be the last poster, and how could it ever be verified. Very similar to that timeless classic about whether or not if a tree falls in a forest, but no one is there to hear, can one truly say it makes a sound.
Or the Zen koan of the sound of one hand clapping.
Maybe it's just me, but personally, I've grown quite accustomed to the sound of no hand clapping.
(Wow. Did I really say that out loud?)
And if there were to be an award for the Master of Most OT comments, who would win it? The Bier Meisters?
And what about an award for the person with THE MOST THREADS DELETED BY THE SYNT MONDAY MORNING MAD MAFIA who still lived to post another day? (I KNOW I could stand a fighting chance in that one!)
But alas...it's time to move on. Off to the new forum. New topics. New toasts. But for me, one last HipHipHooray for Voodoo Dude!

Did you ever get to the point where you understood that the only thing in the world that makes a sound is the ear (some say brain, but then you could say, no, individual neurons - so I just leave it at the ear)? All else in the world simply make vibrations. Which I believe has always been the true point of that "if a tree falls" question. It is a good example of words that can misdirect our attention.
Since a tree does not make a sound, only the ear - the question becomes "does a tree set up vibrations when it falls even if there is no ear/brain around to interpret those vibrations"? That question is a no-brainer.

| bonnder wrote: | | Did you ever get to the point where you understood that the only thing in the world that makes a sound is the ear? | Well, I don't know. For a long while there, the only thing in the world I could pinpoint with absolute certainty that made a sound was my wife. A LOT of sound. Now, she's my ex-wife, so I think that pretty much says all that needs to be said on that subject. (Parenthetically, things are a LOT quieter now.)
(I have a feeling that's not exactly what you meant, but: 1. I had more fun answering it my way. 2. It won't make a rat's ass difference, since this "time capsule" will be sealed for Eternity once the Webmaster gods have their way with it.)
:-)
And now...if you'll excuse me...I apparently have a LOT of catching up to do. I thought it would be a relatively simple matter of buying a DVD, popping it into my DVD player, and ripping it to an avi or mpeg file just like I do for my CD's. I must have been living in a cave all this time, deluded by all of those "DVD-RIP" notes permeating my Kazaa-Lite search results. Welcome to CSS world! Fortunately, there's Google. (And the guy at the Best Buy who said, kinda quietly: "Check out something called DeCss. Mum's the word".) So, off I go, in search of yet another mindless internet/21st century boondoggle. Little time to contemplate the sound in an empty forest; or even the forest for the trees. No, it's petal to the metal and let's see if we can't get this bad boy rockin!
