When i try to use hiss reduction or noise reduction i can hit preview and hear a significant reduction in hiss. Yet when i save it and play back the file the hiss is still there totally unaffected by the noise reduction. I have tried saving the hiss only and generating a profile to use, and that works great in preview. Even the standard hiss reduction set on high works great in preview, but when i save it like this the file is back to it's full hissy glory as soon as i play it back. Any ideas?

Ok, now it gets wierder. In noise reduction i just tried bypassing and the noise reduction effect was stiil in effect ! Nothing bypasses it while previewing it even if you check the "bypass" box ! I think it may be time for a re-install !

I have a hunch this preview matter is a bug, and I can reproduce this as well. Others may have posted about this in the past, because it all has such a strange a familiar ring. The workaround is to manually stop and re-start the preview.

But the initial problem is really odd. Are you using 2.0 or 2.1?

This isn't a file with less than 16 bits, is it?

As MC says, you have to press preview first, then press bypass while the preview is actually previewing. This "feature" (today's buzzword) affects one or two other effects too, I think.

You nailed it Ozpeter ! Thanks. Turns out it was 8 bit. I never even thought about that. Someone gave me this file to fix for them, and it's just a voice recording. Converted ti 16 and not the NR works fine. I never realized you couldn't work with 8 bit files, tho i never had a reason to till now. Thanks !

You're not the first person to fall foul of that catch, Dazco! - hence my post which I dragged from my memory of a previous thread. Happy days.
