Just a word of advice to anyone who is posting on here...

When you have a problem, the key to getting it solved is threefold.

*System Information
*Reproduction
*Clear Explanation

Everyone has a different puter. Add the relevant items - sound card, especially. Include the version of Cool Edit, plug-ins if any, and the version number. Also relevant info - like if you have a video problem, you'd want to list the video card make and model, driver number, etc. Also the version of Windows is helpful.

If you can consistently reproduce your problem, list your steps in such a way that someone who is reading what you write could do it on their machine.

Finally, make a clear explanation. The more description, the better. Although a problem may seem obvious to you, remember, the people reading about your problem aren't able to see it. Be their eyes for them. Nothing is too simple to explain, and it's often in the simple things we take for granted that the root of a problem lies.

Hopefully these steps will assist you before writing a problem here. Remember, it's really likely that someone else has had your problem before. Take a look around, here and the FAQ's. They really do work!

You can take vocals out? Really? This one time, at band camp, they had a karaoke machine, so like I sang and stuff, and it was way cool.

Instead of all this bumping, I suggest the webmaster makes this thread 'sticky' and places it at the top of the list.

Dear World

I've just spent the past 17 hours trying to make the most talentless bimbo on the planet sound half presentable so she can torture a whole tribe of A&R [t:fbae12ed58]vultures[/t:fbae12ed58] people with her demo disc. I might have done the legitimate music world a service, but frankly I'm too tired to care right now.

I wonder if Stock Aitken Waterman felt like this...

Yeah I guess I sounded a little unkind, but honestly, in 12 years of recording I've never heard anything quite so shrill!! I should get away with this though... After all, her most intelligent question during the session was "Where does all the music go when you record it? Like, isn't there a tape machine or something?".

I kid you not.

Reagarding Man v2.00002 betas' discoveries on interaction with Women v2002.1:

1) Feed her well.

2) They're usually right (not sure of the % reliability stats there but she seems to be :)

3) Make everything easy for her to find.

4) When she re-defines her image, It's polite to complement the engineer (usually herself.)

5) Let her talk - most of the time she's sharing what she knows - some times she's throwing out the rubbish & some of it unfortunatley hits you - but that's life.

It's not as simple as that - but I'm a simple person.

James, you've heard the gender-gap question of the ages, I hope?

If a man is talking in a forest, and no woman is there to hear him, is he still wrong?

Bruce - I'd never actually perused the Mixerman chronicles until you mentioned them, but after a quick search I was happy to see I'm still not the only one suffering in this industry! Thanks for the heads up Wink I can certainly relate to the poor guy.
