Hi,

Is is possible to process sound in real time with DX effects? I have a 16 track hard disk recorder, what I would like to do is feed the effect send into my soundcard and return back to the desk, running the Ozone compressor in between - does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks

Not using CE/CEP/2.0 as they have to have the file first. Maybe with another program?

It's time to throw out your outboard effects, folks!

I don't whether this a big discovery or not, but if you combine SpinAudio's freeware Asio FX Processor LE with the freeware VB ffx4 rack and the freeware VST DX Wrapper, you can run four simultaneous VST or DX effects simultaneously in realtime (ie using the effects standalone from soundcard in to soundcard out).

One of the four can be Ozone, which itself of course combines six effects. And you can run another VB rack within the first rack, so the possibilities seem to be endless!

Each of the effects can be bypassed or soloed within the VB rack.

On my Pentium 4 1.5 gig it runs glitch-free too - at the moment I am playing a CD through Anwida reverb, the Blue flanger, VST Peak Master, and Ozone demo (all modules active) and the processor is running at around 60%. The result of course is a little odd!

I have to say that although this is loads of fun, and the various companies involved might be taken aback at what you can do for free with this combination, applying effects irrevocably in real time has its limitations when compared with applying effects to wav files in Cool Edit with the possibility of undo.

Further experimentation reveals that one can record the output from the rack of real-time DX and VST effects described above using Total Recorder. You could thereby record real-time changes to the effects, for instance varying the amount of reverb or eq settings as required during a track. However all of this comes from a Cool Edit 2000 user - I suspect something similar is available built-in to the new version of Cool Edit Pro? Meanwhile the procedure is being useful to me in copying some old cassettes straight to minidisc with DX and VST enhancements 'on the fly'.
