I don't use CEP 2.0, but I think that it's absolutely rediculous that they are refusing to answer our questions about compatibility with FreeFilter!
How many times does it need to be asked?

Hmm, post78 has caught me out not searching the forum before posting a reply! There are, as he says, many references to be found - a particularly good one is....

Hey Guys,
This is a repetition of what Syntrillium M.D. has already stated but Free Filter DOES work with Cool Edit Pro 2.0. This issue has in no way been avoided and we have made it clear to anyone who has called or emailed into Pro Support that the plug-in does work. The exceptions to this have been only to note that we have found the plug-in to be "quirky" in the way that it works. This is not only with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 but with other software programs as well.
Below is a step by step layout of how to get Free Filter to work with CEP2.0. If you have any other problems with the way this, or any other Direct X plug-In works, please contact the manufacturer of that specific plug-in.
- First open both files into the Edit View of Cool Edit Pro 2.0. You can switch between then by using the organizer window or the "Window" drop-down menu.
- Once the files are opened switch focus so that you have the "Original" file in front of you. This will be the file that has the EQ source settings that you wish to apply to your second file.
- Next go to Effects > Direct X > ME Freefilter. Once this opens up click on the Source button which will also light up the learn button as well. To Learn the source click preview. NOTE: You must listen to the ENTIRE file or the entire area that you have highlighted in order for Free Filter to learn the EQ settings of your entire selection (or the entire file).
- When this has finished playing you can click stop (to stop previewing) when you see text appear that says "Source Learned". Now click the CLOSE button within Free Filter.
- Next go to the file organizer window (or the Windows drop-down) and select your "second" file that you want to apply the "learned" EQ settings to. once that file is in view in the Edit View go back to Effects > Direct X > ME Free Filter.
- Now click the DEST button which will also light up the learn button as well. To Learn the destination click preview. NOTE: Again, you must listen to the ENTIRE file or the entire area that you have highlighted in order for Free Filter to learn the EQ settings of your entire selection (or the entire file).
- When this has finished playing you can click stop (to stop previewing) when you see text appear that says "Destination Learned".
-Next Click the LEARN button in Free Filter which should de-activate all the options within Free Filter and no buttons should be lit. Once this is the case, click the Match button and then click OK. This will match the source to your destination file which is now in view.
This has been tested and works great when done correctly. If you have any other problems with this plug-in please contact Steinberg to see if they have any other suggestions on making this work properly for you. We do know that this plug-in can be quirky at times but it does work within Cool Edit Pro 2.0 if used the proper way which has been outlined above.

Thank you. I would just like to note that it has been asked on this forum twice before, and the only responce was "It works".
Anyway, thank you for finally clearing this up.
