VST wrappers work flawlessly in CEP for effects but not VST instruments. The best one I found is the Spin Audio wrapper. Unlike some others I've tried, the Spin ones actually write shortcuts to the VST effect, so that you go directly to it. Some of the other ones open up the wrapper, then you have to search to find the .dlll of the VST effect you are looking for. Spin has a Pro version which allows unlimited wraps to be set, and the Lite version which is free and only allows 2 wraps.

I use the FXpansion v 4.0 I forget what it costs, but it also shows the VST effect directly and, if you ever got a program that uses VST instruments, it wraps them as well FXpansion also made a free version, but I am not sure if it is still available.

Two powerful wrappers are DirectiXer v2.2 (www.tonewise.com) and FXpansion's VST-DX Adapter v4.1 (www.fxpansion.com)

Yes you can use these wrappers, but in my experience (in CE2K using the DX add-on) they are rather unstable. There do seem to be some rogue FX plugins that are particularly bad when used inside a wrapper, but none in my extensive collection worked perfectly. :(
