I'm a huge fan of CE and I'd like to use it in a proprietary hardware/software system I'm putting together.

What I was curious about is if anyone has written an application that can control cool edit? The only thing I need to be able to do is push "Play" or "Record" from my own software.

The reason for this is I'd like to be able to push play/record while controlling some hardware that I've got hooked up to my computer.

If anyone can offer my pointers I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Well, Synt sells the "Red Rover". Other than that, I seem to remember mention of some sort of Tascam controller working also. Good Luck

Actually, I'm not looking for external hardware, the hardware is my own and I'm controlling it via a program I've written. What I'm curious about is syncronizing play/record with Cool Edit.

Basically a way to allow my app to push play or record on the cool edit interface during a specific event in my program.

Blush I see now. I misunderstood the.... "I'd like to be able to push play/record while controlling some hardware that I've got hooked up to my computer" part as.... you were looking for something to "hook" to your computer. Sorry.... and Good Luck!

If you can emulate keyboard commands, or send MIDI, surely you can do this quite easily?

I have CEP 2.0 with the Red Rover. It is limited by the fact that you can only change the volume on one track (or on the master) at a time, and you can't change pan or EQ. Nonetheless, it is great when you are recording solo and (for example) need a music stand close by to hold the lyric sheet and you must start and stop the recording by yourself: Red Rover offers a 10' cable that gets you away from the mouse cable! This is also good when you are recording electric guitar or bass. You no longer have to reach around the instrument to initiate recording via the mouse. The Tascam 428 reportedly works with CEP, and the Mackie Controller promises to [it can't as of now, and I check the Mackie website regularly since I intend to buy a Controller as soon as it can handle CEP].
On another note, I tried to get my Tascam TM-D1000 digital mixer MIDI commands to do something to CEP 1.2, but had no luck. I wish someone would offer a guide to mapping MIDI commands into CEP.

Yea LPDeluxe,
I remember seeing threads discussing the use of Tascam and the announcement of the Mackie. That's what I was referring to in my earlier post (as well as Red Rover). However, as BishopBooyah reiterated.... they're not looking for hardware. Smile

Steve,

Sorry, I guess I'm having a difficult time explaining what I'm doing. My software controls some equipment, it doesn't do any midi or anything like that. It turns some equipment on and tells it to start playing or recording.

The actual audio comes in/out of a soundcard, through some rca cables to the equipment.

So what I'm looking to do is to sync cool edit with the commands I'm throwing at the hardware. So when I tell the hardware to start recording, I'm also telling Cool Edit to start playing.

Or vice versa : if I tell the hardware to start playing, I tell Cool Edit to start recording.

I'm just looking for a way to do it all through one interface, with cool edit running in the background.

The reason I think this should be possible is because the red rover idea. RR has to have some sort of interface which talks to the cool edit program. I was just wondering if simple users had access to those types of controls.

Thanks!

Does this help any? It does seem to imply that CEP will follow a midi stop and start command. (I think Sleepy )

Hello Bishop. Seeing as Voodoo referenced a thread that I had posted to sometime ago, allow me to add a little to the discussion...

Indeed, via MIDI controllers, CEP's transport functions can be triggered. This, however, has nothing to do with SYNC - for synchronization, you need to use SMPTE/MTC.

So, if your device/app/hardware, etc. has the ability to send out MTC (or LTC converted to MTC through a box like a Midiman-BiPort) then that's all you'd need to use without using the Midi Controller Triggers.

Thanks MD.

This feature is available on CEP but not on CE2k?

Well.... there you go! Wink I don't use that particular function, but did vaguely recall something in reference to it.

Yes. Midi Triggering and SMPTE/MTC is only available in CEP...not CE2K.
